So after my last post being about wanting this year to be a step up from my good year last year, instead I've had one of the worst things that I could think of happen to me.
Something I thought would be quite simple ended so so tragically. Logan was booked into the vets for his castration, something that most animals around the world will have to go through and yet at just 7 months old, it took away my best friend. Logan went though the procedure however, as he was starting to come around, he collapsed and stopped breathing. They tried to do all they could but Logan didn't wake up.
I don't want this post to be about how difficult that day was for us or the struggles we've had to face since, as you can imagine, it really has been tough. I know a few of you will have had a similar experience and know how it can tear you apart. Instead I want to tell you a bit about Logan and how special he was.
For those of you don't know the story of how we got Logan, it was all very sudden and definitely the best decision I've ever made. When I was living in Cardiff after University, for a short time I advertising my photography for free because I wanted to keep busy and expand my portfolio. A lovely man got in touch and said he had a French Bulldog, a Bengal boy and a Snow Bengal girl who was pregnant. He sent me some photos of them all and I was just so excited to meet them. I visited them on a beautiful sunny day and the first thing I had to do was get cuddles from them all before I started shooting! I was so happy with the results, Naoh was the perfect poser. I visited them again when the kittens were 8 weeks old to take some photos of them too. I found out then that a ginger boy and a snow girl were still needing homes. Logan looked most like his daddy, who I adored. I took a photo of Logan to send to my boyfriend saying that this cutie was still available. Edd has always said that he doesn't like cats and is a dog person but even he liked the look of the magnificent bengal. I said I'd have him in a heart beat but I didn't feel like we were in a place where we could look after a kitten. We had recently moved and I was still looking for a job. Dan, the owner said he'd love it if we were able to have him though. The idea was in the air but I had to ask Edd's permission and his parent who we are staying with of course. Everyone was unsure really, even myself sometimes but it didn't take that long until Dan convinced me and soon my heart was set on the idea of having him! Edd said that I could do what I wanted if it made me happy! I also received a couple of job offers which solved my main problem! Anyway, a week later we arranged to pick him up! The funniest thing was when Edd 'I'm not a cat person' pulled up at our house, came round to my side of the car, took the cat box off my lap and ran off into the house saying that he'll take him in! Edd was working away for most of the first few weeks of having Logan so it was nice to have the company. For a while Edd didn't think Logan liked him that much but as time went on, he had his special moments with him too. I don't think Edd imagined at the time that he would also completely fall in love with Logan as much as he did.
From that day on everything changed, he became a huge part of our life. Everything just seemed better when he was around. He made us incredibly happy. We have so many wonderful memories of our little bengal boy... and maybe some bad too (for instance, poo got stuck to his foot and he went to see daddy while he was sleeping!). But I'm going to tell you just a few of my favourite Life With Logan stories.
It wasn't long until we discovered how smart he was. Logan was about three months, I'd ran out of his food and was still waiting for the food I'd ordered for him to arrive, so we had to buy what ever the supermarket had. He really wasn't that keen on this temporary food. When the food arrived, I put the bag under Terrence's viv. I wanted to give him the rest of this stuff I'd just bought as I didn't want to waist it, however, Logan was having none of it! He went up to his bowl and glanced at his dinner. He turned his nose up at it and ran to Terrence's viv, he then started dragging out his food bag! So of course I had to give him what he wanted! I'd also taught him to sit before he got his dinner or any treats! He was so good! We never wanted to feed him any of our food however if we did bring up any snacks to the room we had to fight Logan off! This one time he actually knocked half a chicken nugget out of my hand and really enjoyed that! He also seemed to be really interested in the brownies we ate the night before taking him to the vet.
Logan stayed with us in our room most of the time but he also liked being in the hallway. (Occasionally we'd take him downstairs to introduce him to some of the dogs too). Around the same age, 3/4 months old, I had Logan in our room with me. He decided he wanted to get out into the hallway. I sat there watching him as he lined up along the door, hooked his paws under the door and pulled it towards him! The door doesn't click in and can just be pushed opened but Logan had learned how to do it! Of course there was no stopping him after that!
Logan had many cute little habits, every now and again while I try to get on with life I think about what he'd probably be doing right now. Logan had a bit of an obsession with ear buds, I would take them away normally as I didn't want him to hurt himself but he really did love them! He would play and chew on one for hours. We always had to keep the draw with the box of ear buds in closed as he'd stick his head in the draw and start pulling them out one by one! The main thing he loved that also gave him comfort was my dressing gown, he really liked the softness. It was lovely as I also love my dressing gown and always wear it when I can! I'd leave it on the floor next to the bed so that he could sleep on it, which he always did. He would first knead it with his paws while purring away and then he'd curl up in a ball and go to sleep. In the night Logan would normally join us in bed. He'd come up right by me or Edd and snuggle. He was so good and slept with us all through the night. I'd often wake up to him next to me and would then stay in bed an extra hour while I pulled him closer and cuddled!
Logan was a noisy thing, I began to understand his different meows. His baby meow he'd do when he was getting cuddles was the sweetest sound ever. He'd also flop on the floor onto his back when he wanted some fuss, I loved it most when he'd be sitting down and try to put his head on the floor first before rolling and dropping the rest of his body, super cute! He did it most when I just got back home from work, he was always happy to see us.
Logan definitely understood when he was being a bit naughty, he would usually stop when I asked but then he'd just do it again and again! What he used to do most to get my attention when he wanted food was to climb on everything he could! If I was away, the room was un touched but when I was there, everything seemed to end up on the floor! He would either climb on my chest of draws or he would jump on the desk, walk along the fish tank, from there he could get onto the mantlepiece and then onto Terrence's viv... knocking a few things as he went! I'd get up got catch him, he'd try and do his cute dipping his head thing and lie on his back (while still on the mantlepiece) How could you be angry now?! He also liked to chew my leather bag, I think he liked the texture. Something I though was once damaged is now something I want to cherish.
One of my funniest memories of Logan was on a chilled evening when Edd and I were watching TV in bed. Our door was open and Logan started bolting it in and out of the room. It was so cute to see him run around like that anyway and he was so fast! But he kept doing it for ages. I decided to take a look at where he was going and discovered I'd left a box filled with foam peanuts outside the door which Logan had knocked all over the floor in the doorway! He was basically having the time of his life running through them all! I had to clear it up as he also wanted to chew and eat them!
When Logan was first introduced to Terrence, he was actually a bit scared! It didn't take too long until he got used to him. When ever Terrence was out, Logan would always stay close to him. Normally just sat and watched him crawl around from a distance but there were a few times he tried to play with him!
Logan was so beautiful, so soft and so loving. We buried him in the garden next to a few of Edd's other old family pets. Makes me happy that he isn't alone. Logan will forever be in our hearts and he'll never be forgotten. I loved every minute we spent with that cheeky monkey and I hope he loved us and that we made him as happy as he made us. I'm going to miss him so, so much.
