I decided to brush off the dust from my camera and get back to it, I mean I couldn't not do a Tortoise Tales this month! It felt really good, I've been so stressed out about Logan but I'm starting to feel more myself again and the motivation is coming back. I'll never get over what happened but unfortunately I have to learn to move on without him.
I wanted to do something different other than the typical Valentines theme of chocolates and roses. I hadn't thought about what I was going to do for the shoot thoroughly enough and it's definitely not my best work. I should have made my plan earlier so I had time to collect more items for the scene, I had limited days to do the shoot and I just had to make do with what I had! I thought it I put things ing the background and blurred it out, it wouldn't look so bad... As you can see Terrence is in his home made science lab making a love potion...wonder who it was for?! But Terrence is a bit clumsy and accidentally got some instead!
I did actually do the shoot twice as there were a few things I wasn't happy about, mainly that I wanted to the bottle on it's side as if it had fallen over rather than it being stood up. In the end however I preferred the original mostly because I was never going to get Terrence's facial expression that perfect again!! I need to take more time in the planning and think about what I really want rather than doing it twice and just sticking with the original anyway!
I've wanted to do a shoot where Terrence is looking super happy and I thought this shoot was a good opportunity. The time it takes me to set up the scene usually takes twice as long than actually photographing Terrence in it. This time it was even quicker. I basically put Terrence on the table and then give him some yummy food (In this case it was tomatoes) I'll let him have a couple bites but every now and again I'll take the food away as he's about to chomp! It's a bit mean I know but Terrence usually figures this out and he stops eating altogether until he's got the food with him back in his viv! So I have very few chances to get the right shot!
The look I want is normally quite natural and bright. I added a few extras in photoshop such as the hearts and added a second chalk board as I didn't like the glass with the pens much, just wanted them poking out the top. I tried to make it more sciencey by adding more test tubes and vials in the background but it didn't look natural. I did photoshop in a tiny pair of goggles though! I tried putting them on him but funnily enough they really aren't the right shape!
Overall I think Terrence's face makes the whole image, hopefully next months will be better!
My blog is for updates and a little behind the scenes info on my current projects and activities.
