I love the beginning of a new year. I love getting myself organised and excited about making plans for the year ahead. I write down all my goals, projects I want to work on and think about the direction I want to take. How can I improve and become a better photographer?
Well, I'll tell you now, that's all been pushed aside!
This photo isn't of who you may think it is... this stunning boy is Noah. Noah is in fact our special boy Logan's dad. Can see where he got his good looks from right??
Last week we brought Noah into our home and introduced him to the rest of the family. That's right, Noah is now part of our pack! What's even more special, after looking at Noah and Oliver's pedigrees... Noah is actually Oliver's great Uncle! How crazy is that! That means our beloved Logan and Oliver are related! Thankfully after just a week, Oliver and Noah have already started to get along. Oliver even licked Noah's ear a couple times yesterday morning! It will take a few more weeks at least before everyone is settled and Noah is used to his new surroundings. I've been making sure I spend loads of time with them. Now that I know the boys are going to be fine together, I thought I'd take a quick snap of Noah and share our latest news.
It's been a while since I've done some proper images of Olly aside from his Instagram (its fire.and.ice.bengals if you're interested in ;) ) I had my partner help me keep him entertained on the studio table. We had some of his favourite treats in hand, he was actually really, really good! The top image is something I've wanted to do for months, I think I had the idea before Christmas. I thought it would take me ages to get this many different expressions but Oliver was actually really easy to work with. I did take him outside for a walk to use up some of that energy, it worked clearly! The final image isn't perfect, there are some shadows (don't look too closely now!) I should have spent more time on each individual image, editing the photos when I'd put them all together was a a it more difficult. I will get round to re-doing it though, I'd like to get this printed.
My boyfriend's sister had her room decorated recently. The carpet was also ripped up and the wooden floor sanded underneath. It looked like a great photo set up! Oliver often wonders into there but this time when I went to retrieve him, I thought this would be a great opportunity to get some snaps before all the furniture was put back in! The walls have been painted a pale blue, matching Olly's eyes!
This little fluff ball was definitely my fave puppy to photograph, he just had the most adorable, smiley face and that cute little tongue poking out! I just had to take him out on his own and get a couple shots.
I've had the idea of creating a mini studio for so, so long and I'm extremely glad to have started putting it all together now. It's very simple, I was only looking out for a small fold up table and some backgrounds. I wanted it mainly for Tortoise Tales, something portable but big enough to create set ups. That way I can set up anywhere and make more exciting images. I did also think it would get me photographing Oliver more as he's an indoor cat and my room isn't the tidiest! I have a large portable studio set up, with lights, but unfortunately don't have the room for it at the moment.
The photo of Oliver above was my first trial. Wood patterned wallpaper and just a white wall. I have many patterned papers now that I'm waiting to try out although, for backgrounds I want mainly plain colours which I've not been able to find many of yet.
Hope you enjoy the new photos to come :)
Over the weekend the weather was good and they took an adventure in the garden. My boyfriend, Edd, helped to round them upas they were mostly climbing all over me trying to help rather than be the models! I'll have plenty of opportunities to photograph the pups so I've just picked my top 3 images for this shoot and maybe do some planning on a more conceptual shoot. Having the pups is also a great opportunity for me to experiment and try new techniques... any excuse for some puppy cuddles!
Today is Logan's 1st birthday. I wonder how big he would have been now!
I don't want this to be a sad post but I did want to share this image I made a little while ago. In a perfect world, I wish I could have both my boys together, I wonder if they would have got on?
Logan is actually two months younger than Oliver in this! Oliver looks a bit slimmer because he's stretched out but Logan was definitely bit bigger than him anyway. It was quite difficult to do as Oliver doesn't pay too much attention to what's going on outside where as Logan would sit there for hours!
My camera hasn't got back to me yet but all of a sudden now that it's gone, ideas have been flowing.
I do have my old 550D which I've been using to take a few snaps here and there but I'm saving my shoot ideas for when my camera returns. I've been covering at work and doing extra hours as well as seeing family that have come from Florida, so I've not really had the time to shoot anyway at the moment. I have booked some time off at the end of June, beginning of July. Not sure what the plan is yet but photography will be my focus. There are many places I want to visit with great photo opportunities. I also want to knuckle down and create some work I've had in my head for months now.
I've enjoyed being able to take Oliver out, even Terrence has been able to join us a few times! Oliver is on a harness but I edited out his lead!
My blog is for updates and a little behind the scenes info on my current projects and activities.
