A few weeks ago I was happy to be invited back to Bath Cats and Dogs home, this time to photograph some of their cats. Unfortunately they have more black, black and white cats than any other. This isn't just at the Bath home but in homes and shelters all over. It is said that black cats are the least likely cats to be adopted and the main reason for this is because black cats are especially hard to photograph. Black cats are becoming less popular with those who enjoy posting self-portraits with their pets on social media because they don't photograph as well as cats with more distinctive markings.
I got to see the home's beautiful new sensory garden which is specially for the cats in residence. It was some of the cat's first time too but all enjoyed it so much. I met some real characters and really enjoyed photographing the different personalities. I kept the images quite natural with minimal editing as I was asked to write some picture taking tips for owners with black cats or people considering adopting. I had my SLR but of course most people will be using phones or compact cameras, I tried to capture the best angles and lighting which should work with most cameras.
